JAISALMER

WHERE THE FORTS ARE STILL LIVING😊

You should travel to Jaisalmer if geology is your area of interest. Aakal, also known as the Wood Fossil Park, lies about 15 kilometres from the city. Geologic catastrophes that happened in the Thar Desert 180 million years ago can be found and traced here. The Indian border in western Rajasthan is also guarded by the city of Jaisalmer. The Thar Desert and the Pakistani border are both not far from this "Golden City." The Jaisalmer Fort, popularly known as Sonar Qila, is the most notable monument in the city (Golden Fort). Jaisalmer Fort is not merely a tourist destination, in contrast to the majority of other forts in India. In addition to historic havelis (homes), it also has stores and hotels.

Jaisalmer traces its inception to the 12th century. History tells us of Rawal Jaisal, the eldest heir of the Rawal of Deoraj, was passed over for the throne of Lodurva and a younger half-brother was crowned king. Rawal Jaisal went looking for a new location to set up his capital when he came across sage Eesul. The sage told him about Krishna’s prophecy which said that a descendant of his Yaduvanshi clan would found a new kingdom at this same spot. It was in 1156 that Rawal Jaisal constructed a mud fort, named it Jaisalmer after himself and declared it his capital.

The history of Jaisalmer begins in the 12th century. A younger half-brother was crowned king of Lodurva instead of Rawal Jaisal, the eldest heir to the Rawal of Deoraj, according to recorded history. When searching for a new location to establish his capital, Rawal Jaisal stumbled upon the wise man Eesul. The sage informed him about Krishna's prophesy, according to which a member of his Yaduvanshi tribe will establish a new empire in this location. In 1156, Rawal Jaisal built a mud fort, gave it his own name of Jaisalmer, and proclaimed it to be his capital.
